Event Date: May 5

Description: This project involves making improvements and raising awareness for the East Ridge Animal Shelter.

The East Ridge Animal Shelter is located on Yale Street, behind Parkridge East hospital, between the waste water and trash collection facilities- with the things we throw away. And unfortunately, it is also an outdated , unsightly facility that not longer meets the needs of the animals housed there.

In the meantime as we citizens petition for a new and modern facility to be built at a more desirable location, more visible and more easily located by the public, there are things we can do to make the animals more comfortable and increase their chances of adoption.

The Projects will include:

1. Installing dividers between the kennels to promote calmness in the dogs.

2. Installing plastic privacy fencing onto the existing outdoor fencing to also help promote calmness.

3. Placing colorful new vinyl banners at the entrance to shelter to help identify the shelter and welcome visitors.

4. Placing container trees/plants at the entrance.

5. Yard cleanup/improvement

Wish List:

1. Awnings/tarps to cover the outdoor kennels to keep the dogs dry and promote sun and heat protection.

2. New street signage at Ringgold Road, both ends of Spring Creek Road and at Yale Street to help promote the shelter and to help visitors more easily locate the facility.

Supplies Needed: Be sure to wear your work clothes and shoes- and bring work gloves. Bring a basic tool box and/or yard and gardening tools.

Donations Needed:  Please consider making a donation to fund our "Pass It On" projects at the Shelter on May 5.

1. Donate hard rubber dog toys, like Kong and Nylabone, which help relieve anxiety in the dogs.

2. Donate unscented non-clumping cat litter, dog treats, leashes and collars, pet carriers and crates, metal food bowls, plastic litter pans, newspaper, kitchen trash bags and bleach.

3. Volunteer to Walk Dogs

4. Make a Monetary Donations to the spay/neuter program.
